Many people that rely on their mind for their livelihoods, such as scientists, software developers, and even writers, have a very bad shared tendency. They don’t take care of their bodies.
That isn’t to say all of the cerebral types neglect their health. However, a high percentage of them do.
It’s very important to keep your body healthy even if you work primarily with your mind. You will be a better, stronger, and more productive person.
3 Reasons to Keep You Body as Strong as Your Mind
It’s easy to push off healthy choices when you have a deadline approaching or you are on a new creative tear. But, here are a few reasons you may want to reconsider that approach.
Your Mind is Part of Your Body
Your mind, whether you take a spiritual or pure biological approach, is part of the overall system that is your body. If you don’t take care of your body, by definition you are also not taking care of your mind.
It’s important to eat healthy foods. They give your brain the required nutrients it needs to work at its best. Your brain and your mind are only going to work their best when they get what they need.
Treat your body well and the mind will follow.
Give Your Subconscious Time to Work
Taking a break from the mental gymnastics to spend some time working on your body instead, whether it’s yoga or something like some in-home calisthenics like pull ups and push ups, is going to do wonders. That’s because there’s more to your mind than what is on it at any current moment.
When your active mind gets a rest, it gives your subconscious time to crunch data and come up with some conclusions.
Have you ever had an “Aha” moment? That actually didn’t come out of nowhere. It was a solution that came after your subconscious was given enough time and information to come up with an idea of solution.
That means taking a rest from active mental duties actually helps your mind work better.
A Sick You is an Unproductive You
This concept actually relates to the idea of how your mind and body are connected. If you don’t take care of your body, your mind and brain will not get what they need nutritionally.
But, even more directly, if you don’t take care of your body, there’s a higher chance you get sick and do so more often. When you are sick, you are definitely not 100%.
The more and more you neglect your physical health, the worse you immune system gets. Over time, you’ll fight on less colds and flus, and spend more time recovering for illness than working.
If you want get the best out of your unique mind, you cannot neglect the rest of your body. When you aren’t healthy in body and mind, you will get sick more often. You brain won’t get the proper nutrition it needs to excel. And, you won’t take advantage of all the levels of you brain’s ability to process information.
Eat well, sleep well, and exercise. Your mind will reward you for it.
